Saved you a seat.

We are all capable of healing and growing when we are open to the process. The counseling process can include learning and practicing new coping skills, having a safe place to grieve, exploring the effect of past negative experiences, or all of the above.

At Harwood Therapy, we’ll work together to determine the process that best supports you.

Meet Kelsey

Kelsey R. Harwood, LPC

During my ten years in the mental health field, I have supported adolescents, adults, and elder adults with managing anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, caregiver stress, grief, death and dying, family conflict, and relationship issues. I have served individuals with developmental disabilities in the role of therapist and caregiver. Through my work as a hospice social worker, I have guided patients at the end of their lives, and their families, with finding physical and emotional comfort.

You will find that I am authentic and take the time to truly hear and know you. I have always been interested in how people function in the best and worst of times. I am passionate about partnering with you to come to know yourself better, and the choices you have for how to exist, and even thrive. I am consistently in awe of the strength of those that have shared their inner lives with me. It is an honor to be in this role.

Your First Session

Scheduling Your First Session

An initial session of 60 minutes lays the foundation for our work together. I will want to know both what brings you in and what you hope to achieve. You might not always have the words for this, and that’s ok. I will ask you questions to help me understand who you are and what you’ve experienced.

Therapy is not a quick fix and it takes time. As Lori Gottlieb wrote in Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, “It takes a while to hear a person’s story and for that person to tell it, and like most stories, it bounces all over the place before you know what the place really is.”

Finding a Good Fit

The therapeutic relationship is the most impactful factor for change in therapy. The first therapist you meet with won’t always be the best fit for you. The most important thing to ask yourself after meeting with a therapist for the first time is, “did I feel heard and understood?” “Was this person easy to talk to?”

Planning Ahead

Typical sessions range from 45-60 minutes, weekly or every other week. The length of treatment varies and will be tailored to your unique needs.
